Space Needle Overview
Standing at 185 meters (605ft) high, Seattle's most famous building is a great place from which to enjoy outstanding 360-degree views across the city and Washington State, including the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, Puget Sound and Mount Rainier. The Space Needle is the most recognized landmark in Seattle, and visitors can also eat in its famous revolving restaurant. Designed by Edward E Carlson and completed in 1961 for US$4.5 million, the top of this Space Age tower can be reached in just 43 seconds by a futuristic glass lift. The tower is located at the Seattle Center, a 30-hectare (74 acre) site built for the 1962 World Fair, which is also home to the Pacific Science Center, offering laser and hologram exhibits, the Boeing IMAX Theater and the Children's Museum. Air: Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Road: Monorail: A monorail service operates from Westlake Center and stops near the Space Needle. Road: Coach: Coaches set down on Broad Street, west of Fifth Avenue. Bus: Public services.
