Sandringham Estate Overview
Set within beautiful grounds, Sandringham was built in 1870 by the Prince and Princess of Wales who later became King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra. Passed down through four generations of British Monarchs, the estate is now the country residence of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh. Over the years the estate has acquired many objets d'art and each room is lavishly decorated with fine furniture and paintings. The Estate Museum was created by King George V as early as 1928 and visitors can see, amongst other things, the fine collection of Royal Vehicles and Carriages. Visitors are able to enjoy 243 hectares (600 acres) of Country Park that lies within the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Also on the estate are a working sawmill and fruit farm. There's a Visitor Center set within the Country Park with a restaurant, shop and further information about the history of the estate. Air: Norwich Airport and Stansted Airport. Rail: Kings Lynn Station. Road: Bus: Public services. Car: A148.
