Millenium Stadium Overview
Cardiff's state-of-the-art Millennium Stadium opened in 1999 and was the premiere sporting arena in the UK hosting many major sporting events whilst London's Wembley Stadium was being redeveloped (scheduled for completion in 2006). It has been built on the site of the old National Stadium at Cardiff Arms Park and was the first stadium in the UK with a retractable roof making it suitable for use throughout the year. Part funded by the Welsh Rugby Union, the stadium has a capacity of 74,500 and regularly hosts major football, rugby, athletics and speedway events as well as large-scale music concerts.
