Jungfraujoch Overview
The stereotypically Swiss hiking trails and snow-covered Alps of the Jungfraujoch have been attracting visitors for hundreds of years. The peak of the Jungfrau is 4158m (13,642ft) high, with the ridge or 'joch' lying below it, where visitors can see the longest glacier in Europe, the 24km (15 miles) long Aletsch Glacier. Skiing and alpine activities are immensely popular but one of the best ways to take in the region is by train. Completed in 1912, the Jungfraujoch Railway takes passengers to the mountain's summit where they can get off at the highest railway station in Europe, which reaches an altitude of 3454m (11,333 ft). Air: Geneva International Airport, Berne-Belp Airport. Rail: Train: Jungfrau Station. Road: Car: Via Bern to Interlaken, then Interlaken-Grindelwald Grund exit (from Zurich). Visitors must then take a train (from Grindelwald Grund).
