Fota Wildlife Park Overview
Located just a few miles outside Cork, Fota Wildlife Park opened in 1983 as a joint project between the Zoological Society of Ireland and the University of Cork. It's primary objective was the conservation of wildlife and today the zoo is home to over 70 species of exotic wildlife including giraffes, zebra, antelope and ostrich which are all free to roam together within the park as they would in their natural habitats in the wild. Of all the animals in the zoo, only the resident cheetahs are in conventional enclosures. The entrance ticket to Fota Wildlife Park also includes entrance to the Fota Aboretum containing a fine collection of plants and trees from around the world.
