Ethniko Archaiologiko Mouseio (National Archaeological Museum of Athens) Overview
The most important museum in Athens, the National Archaeological Museum houses one of the richest collections of Ancient Greek art in the world. Completed in 1899, the collection includes artifacts from all periods of Ancient Greek civilization. It is particularly well known for objects found at the ancient city of Mycenae, including the Mask of Agamemnon, gold vases and elaborate weapons. The museum also has a large collection of Cycladic art on display, as well as the Statue of Poseidon, the Helene Stathatos Collection of gold jewelry which dates from the ancient and Byzantine worlds.
