Bunratty Castle and Folk Park Overview
Built in 1425 by the McNamara family on the site of an earlier Viking settlement, and later acquired by the Anglo-Irish Studdart family, Bunratty Castle is one of the finest existing examples of an Irish tower house. Inside is a beautifully preserved collection of Medieval furniture, a reminder of Ireland's Celtic heritage. A Medieval banquet is served every night on demand to enable guests to experience what it was like to be entertained in the castle's heyday. The adjacent Folk Park recreates daily life as it was in 19th-century rural Ireland - farmhouses, shops and cottages have all been reconstructed in detail to provide visitors with an authentic experience.
