Getting around the peninsula region and the eastern states has become much easier over the last few decades making Southeast Asia more accessible than ever.

Kuala Lumpur Petronas Twin Towers

Kuala Lumpur, and quite possibly Southeast Asia’s most dynamic man-made structure is the Petronas Twin Towers. With shopping, restaurants and beautiful parkland at the foot of the building, discovering the inside of the tower is really the highlight. The twin skyscrapers were once the tallest buildings in the world and a sky bridge connects them, offering great views of the city. Standing 13,500 feet above sea level, visitors can apply for a permit to scale the peak, but be warned, it’s no walk in the park. You should also know that on certain days, the summit is hidden under a cloud cover making pictures tough so it’s important to choose visitation days wisely. Aside from the laid-back ambiance of yesteryear, it is also famous for its cooler temperatures. Located at an elevation of over 1,500 meters, the weather is naturally more moderate than in the capital. Bird lovers will adore Taman Negara. It sits upon Peninsular Malaysia, and is the largest national park in the region. Getting into the park can be somewhat of a hassle, as transportation usually includes a combination of buses, trains and ferries. It’s worth the effort though, filled with the world’s most beautiful bird species, thick rainforests, and fascinating insects. The canopy walk through the treetops is a definite highlight, but try to avoid the area during the peak season of July and August as February and May is much more enjoyable. There are two beaches with some of the clearest water in the country just 20 meters from hut accommodation options and you could easily spend a week in this paradise.
