Cleveland Hopkins International Airport
The largest airport in Ohio is located just 12 miles from downtown Cleveland. Each year over eight million passengers travel into Cleveland via Air Canada, American, Delta, Frontier, Southwest, United, and US Airways. Air Canada operates the only regular international flights, with daily service to Toronto. Seasonal charter flights typically fly to Mexico and the Caribbean. The busiest route runs to Chicago, followed by Houston, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Charlotte, Baltimore, and Newark (New Jersey).
The airport’s single terminal is divided into four concourses. A modern AirMall center concentrates most of the airport’s shopping and dining options into one location at the heart of the terminal. Numerous brand name retailers and various eateries are located in the Air Mall. The airport also provides free Wi-Fi internet access throughout the terminal, and curbside valet parking is offered to drivers.
There are several transportation options for arriving passengers. Official taxis do not use meters, but rather a zone tariff system based on your destination. The city’s RTA Red Line light rail runs right from the terminal to the heart of Cleveland in 20 minutes, while 19 limousine and shuttle companies offer more personal service. Eight major car hire firms are also on site for travelers who wish to rent their own vehicle. The airport is located right off Interstate 480 and two other major highways for easy driving around the area.
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport
Ohio’s other major airport is actually located in Kentucky, just across the river from Cincinnati. This airport is useful for travel to the southern part of Ohio, with around seven million passengers flying into Cincinnati each year. The only regularly scheduled international flights run to Toronto, Canada via Air Canada. The other airlines operating flights into Cincinnati include American, Delta, United, and US Airways. Seasonal flights on charter carriers like Apple and Sunwing fly to Mexico and the Caribbean. The main route from Cincinnati is to Atlanta, followed by Chicago, Charlotte, Orlando, Dallas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and Minneapolis.
The single terminal has three concourses, with free Wi-Fi internet covering most of the airport. Concourses A and B have the bulk of the amenities, including over a dozen options to eat and grab a beverage as well as many different kinds of shops. There is a Delta Sky Club in Concourse B, banking services, and shoe shine kiosks in both terminals. Ground transportation is provided by taxis, limos, and shared shuttle vans all of which use fixed rates for fares and are available 24 hours. Eight car rental firms are also on site, including Avis, Dollar, and Thrifty for travelers who prefer to drive. The airport is located just off Interstate 275 for quick access into Cincinnati and other destinations in southern Ohio.
