Indianapolis International Airport

Indiana’s main airport is located seven miles southwest of the downtown business district. On average the airport handles 135 daily flights to 35 almost entirely domestic cities. Delta is the main carrier operating at Indianapolis Airport, followed by Southwest, American, Frontier, United, and US Airways. Air Canada runs the only regularly scheduled international flight to Toronto. The busiest domestic route is to Atlanta, followed by Chicago, Denver, Charlotte, and Dallas. Each year more than seven million passengers travel through Indianapolis International Airport.

The airport recently opened a beautiful new terminal, called the Colonel H. Weir Cook Terminal. This single modern terminal has two concourses than handle both domestic and international flights. Passengers will find ATMs, a currency exchange kiosk, more than a dozen shops both before and after security, and a full range of eateries in both concourses. Delta Sky Club is the only VIP lounge on site.

Ground transportation to and from the airport is provided by taxis, limos, shared airport shuttles, and hotel courtesy vans. IndyGo, the public bus system of Indianapolis, has a direct Airport / Downtown Express Route for travelers with little baggage. There are also eight car rental companies like Alamo, Enterprise, and Hertz on site at the Ground Transportation Center on the first floor. It takes just 15 minutes to get to downtown Indianapolis from the airport via I-70 and I-485.

South Bend Regional Airport

South Bend is a useful regional airport in the northern region of Indiana. It is located three miles north of the city and features 10 direct flights on Allegiant, Frontier, Delta, and United. Popular routes from South Bend include Chicago O’Hare, Atlanta, Detroit, Minneapolis, Denver, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Orlando.

There are just enough food and drink vendors in the terminal to satisfy most travelers, and a handful of sundry shops to pickup last minute items. The WiFi internet service is free to use and ground transportation is provided by taxis, shared shuttles, public buses, and the South Shore Train that runs between Chicago and South Bend. Car rental from Alamo, Avis, Hertz and others is available outside Baggage Claim.
