Menorca Taxis and Car Rental

Taxis are the main way to get around Menorca, besides driving yourself, as the public transport network is limited. There are several taxi companies and all areas can be reached on a metered fare. Two well-known companies are Taxis Mahon (+34-971-357-700), in the capital, and Parada de Taxis (+34-971-381-197), in Ciutadella. These firms both serve the airport, which has an extra surcharge and an additional charge on top of that for luggage. Flag pull and per-meter fees are nominal, but avoid using taxis to travel all across Menorca as it adds up quickly.

Car rental is recommended as there are many nooks and crannies to explore that can be a hassle to get to by bus. Avis, Budget, and Hertz are all represented and vehicles can be pre-booked online, as with local firms like Tui Cars, Betacar Menorca, and Centauro. Be aware there is no orbital road route on Menorca, with streets going off the main Mahon-Ciutadella highway radially.

Menorca Water Taxis

Transmediterranea ferry services run frequently to Mahon from the Spanish mainland cities of Barcelona and Valencia, as well as from the Mallorca capital, Palma de Mallorca, and Alcudia on the north coast of Mallorca. In addition, there is also a ferry from Alcudia, Mallorca, to Ciutadella. Cruise ships dock at the ferry terminal in Mahon Harbor. There is no water taxi service, but boat tours leave from both Mahon and Ciutadella, or you also charter a sail boat to see the island.

Menorca Trains and Buses

Bright red buses run between Mahon and Ciutadella often, and you can get to most towns and resorts by bus. Buses have eastern and some southern beach routes directly from Mahon (including Sant Lluis), and you can get to western and southwestern beaches from Ciutadella.

To get to the likes of Son Bou, take a bus from either of the main towns and change at Alaior. Ferreries and Es Mercadal are other transport hubs for reaching northern and southern beach resorts and towns. Buses are single-decker, cheap, and depart hourly on the main routes from Plaza in Ciutadella and central Mahon. You can pay the driver directly or use a prepaid travel card.
