Niue Taxis and Car Rental

Alofi Rentals (+683 4017) and Niue Rentals (+683 4216) both arrange taxi services around the island. These taxis with drivers are Niue’s only public transportation and their hours vary upon demand. Car rental is the quickest and easiest way to travel around Niue, but most local car rental companies do not include insurance. Weekly rates usually include one free day of driving.

The island’s only police station supplies the Niue driver’s license that motorists need to drive legally on the island. Maximum speed limits are 25mph in villages and 37mph in the countryside. There are only two gas stations on the entire island. It takes no more than 40 minutes to drive the 40-mile main ring road around the island. Bicycles and scooters can also easily be rented.

Niue Water Taxis

The Southern Express freighter makes monthly sailings to Tonga. It is the only vessel which regularly sails to Niue other than private yachts. Many yachts stop on the island while sailing between other South Pacific islands, but yachting is unsafe during cyclone season.
