Bonriki International Airport

Situated to the northeast of the main town of Tarawa Atoll on the Gilbert Islands is Bonriki International Airport, the main gateway to Kiribati. Despite being the main hub, it is very basic with an open runway and limited facilities. Most flights arrive via Nadi in Fiji on Air Pacific or Air Kiribati—twice weekly (Monday and Thursday), which takes three hours. You can also get in from Brisbane, Australia with Our Airline, as well as from the Solomon Islands and Fiji. Air Kiribati serves various destinations within the Gilbert Islands, as does the recently added Coral Sun Airways. It’s only 10 minutes to Bonriki town by minibus, 20 to Bairiki and about 30 to Betio.

Cassidy International Airport

Unfortunately there are no domestic flights to Christmas Island, with access to Cassidy International Airport from Honolulu (Hawaii) and Nadi (Fiji) only on Air Pacific. Cassidy has a sealed runway, but its single terminal also has limited facilities. Banana village is a short trip from the airport, while London, the main town, is about 20 minutes by taxi.

Kanton Island Airport

Getting to the Phoenix Islands is by way of private, chartered aircraft from American Samoa, though you can only fly to Kanton Island. Reaching the Phoenix Island Marine Protected Area can be done by boat charter. As with the other smaller islands, Kanton Island Airport has very limited facilities.
