The airport is located 5km (3 miles) southeast of Valletta.
Airport News
Work on an expansion of the departures is scheduled for completion in mid-2008, incorporating a new VIP lounge and more shops.
Driving Directions
On leaving the airport, take the main road to Marsa, which leads to Valletta. The city center and airport are both clearly signposted.
Car Parking
There are spaces for 650 cars in the car park, which is linked to the main terminal by a walkway (tel: 2369 6475: website: www.sterlingparks.com.mt). Car hire companies have a separate car park for the collection and return of hired vehicles.
Car Hire
Car hire companies are located in the Welcomers’ Hall and include Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, National, Sixt and Thrifty.
Public Transport
Road: Bus: Bus 8 departs regularly to/from Valletta and leaves from a bus stop outside the check-in hall (tel: 2560 8000; website: www.maltatransport.com). The Gozo-Airport Shuttle (tel: 2210 9001; website: www.gozochannel.com) connects to Gozo ferry services at the Cirkewwa sea passenger terminal.
Taxi: There is a fixed-fare taxi service, operated by White Taxis (tel: 2182 3017; website: www.maltatransport.com) to all areas of Malta. A taxi booth is located in the Welcomers’ Hall, where pre-paid tickets can be purchased.
Information and Help Desks
Malta Tourist Information (tel: 2369 6073/4) is located in the Welcomers’ Hall and is open 24 hours a day. Additional information is available on-line (website: www.visitmalta.com). The Customer Services Center (tel: 2124 9600) is located inside the check-in hall and is also open around the clock.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: There are two banks and bureaux de change, as well as a post office and a telecommunications center, in the terminal. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the airport.
Eating and drinking: There are numerous restaurants and cafeterias throughout the airport.
Shopping: There are several shops at the airport, including news kiosk, florist and tax-free outlets (website: www.maltairportvalue.com).
Luggage: A left-luggage service is available 24-hours a day (tel: 2369 6012), as is a luggage secure-wrapping service.
Other facilities: There is a chapel on site.
Conference and Business Facilities
There are three executive lounges at the airport: the Gerolamo Cassar executive lounge, located in Arrivals; the members-only La Valette executive lounge (tel: 2369 6292), situated in the Departures lounge, immediately after security control; and the Ewropa Lounge (operated by Air Malta) in the Departures lounge. Internet access is available to lounge users. Fully-equipped business and conference rooms available on request.
Facilities for Disabled Travelers
The terminal has wheelchair-accessible toilets, ramps and low-level payphones. Reserved parking spaces are available in the car park. Wheelchairs are available on request from the Customer Services Center (tel: 2124 9600).
Hotels
There are no on-site hotels – the nearest are around 10km (6 miles) away, but the necessary information and bookings for all of Malta’s hotels can be obtained from the Tourist Information Office inside the Welcomers’ Hall.
