Location The airport is located 28km (17 miles) north of Guangzhou city center. It straddles the border of the northern Renhe Town in the district of Baiyun and the eastern Xinhua Town in the district of Huadu
Airport News Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport opened in 2004, replacing the old Baiyun Airport. It covers 15 sq km (6 sq miles). It has two runways and a third is planned, expected to be completed by 2010. A new subway line connecting the city and the airport is under construction and is scheduled for completion in 2009. It will have a designed maximum speed of 120kph (75 mph).
Driving Directions A new six-lane expressway connects the airport with the city, and driving either way is straightforward as both the city and the airport are well signposted.
Car Parking There are two car parks at the airport, an outdoor parking lot and a large covered car park. Both short-term and long-term parking is available. In addition there are several smaller VIP parking lots.
Car Hire Self-drive cars are available, although most visitors choose to hire a car with a driver (often from their hotel).
Public Transport Road: Taxi: Taxis are available from the taxi stand outside the terminal building. Limousine services are also available. Bus: Airport Express bus routes (tel: (020) 8612 2102) start from the airport and branch out to various destinations in the Guangzhou and Pearl River Delta region. Several go to the city center and the many big hotels there. Buses depart every 15 minutes from right outside the arrivals area.
Information and Help Desks There are several information desks (tel: (020) 8613 7273), both on the first and the third floor of the terminal building.
Airport Facilities Money and communications: ATMs, a bank, a foreign currency exchange service and two post offices are all located in the terminal building. Eating and drinking: There are several cafes and restaurants both in the arrivals and the departures areas. Shopping: Shopping opportunities are plentiful at the airport. In addition to the duty-free shops, there are shops selling electrical appliances, clothes, books, jewelry, cosmetics, leather items, local craft items and wine and cigarettes. There is also an ordinary convenience store in the terminal. Luggage: There are left luggage facilities (tel: (020) 3606 6854) on the first and third levels in the terminal building. A lost and found office (tel: (020) 3606 6946) is located in the departure hall on the third floor. For luggage inquiries, call (020) 3606 6763 (domestic) or 6790 (international). Other facilities: There are several children’s play rooms in the departure hall and a baby changing room in the arrivals hall. The terminal first aid station (tel: (020) 3606 2664 or 8612 2926, 24 hours) is located in the arrivals hall on the first floor.
Conference and Business Facilities There are business centers with faxes, printers, computers and copy machines on the first and third level of the terminal building.
Facilities for Disabled Travelers There are toilets for disabled people as well as lifts in the terminal.
Hotels The airport’s official hotel, the Novotel Baiyun Airport Guangzhou (tel: (020) 3606 8866), is located just a few minutes’ walk from the terminal building. The Good East Airport Hotel (tel: (020) 8645 8585) is located only a 5 minutes’ drive from the airport, in the Renhe district. It has a free airport shuttle bus to and from the airport.
