Location
The airport is located 7km (4 miles) north of central Cairns.

Airport News
Improvement of the domestic terminal, including development of the common check-in and baggage reclaim areas and expansion of passenger facilities in the central shopping area, will take place in 2007 and 2008. A A$40m project that will expand the arrivals hall and upgrade retail areas is also underway in the international terminal. All in all, A$180m is to be invested in the airport terminals over the next 20 years.

Transfer Between Terminals
The terminals are located 250m (820ft) apart. They are connected by a covered walkway

Driving Directions
From Airport Avenue, turn left at the traffic lights onto Sheridan Street and stay on it for approximately 5km (3 miles) to reach central Cairns.

Car Parking
There are 130 parking spaces by the international terminal and 356 spaces by the domestic terminal. Both short-term and long-term parking spaces are located adjacent to the passenger terminals. Parking bays for the disabled are located in front of the departures and the arrivals doors.

Car Hire
The following car hire companies are available at the airport: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Red Spot and Thrifty.

Public Transport
Road: Bus: Australia Coach operates an airport shuttle bus service to hotels and the city center. Sun Palm Express Coaches operates services to the Northern Beaches, Palm Cove, Port Douglas and Cape Tribulation. Both companies pick up in front of the arrivals area at both terminals and both operate an information desk within the terminals. Staff are on site to greet every major inbound flight. Most of the major hotels in the region operate their own courtesy coach service to and from the airport.
Taxi: Free taxi telephones are located in the arrival halls and the taxi ranks are immediately outside.

Information and Help Desks
Both the domestic and international terminals feature accommodation boards with direct dial phones. There is currently no manned tourist facility at the airport.

Airport Facilities
Money and communications: ATMs are located in the arrival and departure areas of both terminals. Currency exchange booths are located within the baggage reclaim area and in the public arrivals hall as well as in the departure lounge of the international terminal. Post boxes are available in both terminals. Internet services can be found at both terminals, within the departure lounge in the domestic terminal and both inside and outside the departure lounge in the international terminal.
Eating and drinking: Several restaurants, coffee shops and bars can be found in both terminals.
Shopping: The departure lounges in the domestic and international terminals have eight and 15 shops respectively, offering a wide range of items from gems and jewelry, souvenirs, arts and crafts products and other gift items to fashion clothing, designer surf wear, sunglasses and clothing and equipment for trips to the outback. There are duty-free shops and newsagents in both terminals as well.
Luggage: Baggage storage is available at the terminal. Smart Carte Australia (tel: 0407 359 678) can assist with baggage storage needs. Porterage service is available.
Other facilities: Toilets, showers and baby care facilities are located both landside and airside in both terminals. First aid rooms are available in both terminals.

Conference and Business Facilities
There are no conference or business facilities at the airport. Internet access is available in both the domestic and the international terminal.

Facilities for Disabled Travelers
Facilities for people with physical disabilities include lifts, toilets and reserved parking spaces.

Hotels
There are no hotels at the airport. All central hotels are in close proximity. The closest is located just outside the central business district, The Lakes Cairns Resort & Spa (tel: (07) 4053 9400. Sheridan Plaza Hotel Cairns (tel: (07) 4031 6500) is located only 5 minutes from Cairns Airport. Other hotels include Rydges Tradewinds Cairns (tel: (02) 9261 4929) and Mercure Hotel Harbourside (tel: (07) 4051 8999).
