Airport Information

Location

The airport is situated 32km (20 miles) southwest of Detroit.

Airport News

The airport, despite being one of the USA's most modern airports, is planning further expansion and improvement, including addition of a fifth runway, a new rail link between the terminals, and a regional rail system linking Detroit and Ann Arbor with the airport.

Transfer Between Terminals

A free shuttle bus service runs between the North and the McNamara terminal buildings. Owing to the length (1.6km/1 mile) of the McNamara Terminal, an express tram service runs from end to end.

Driving Directions

The airport can be accessed from two major interstate motorways: the I-94 Middlebelt/Merriman Road, exit 198, which turns into Rogell Drive, and the I-275 Eureka Road, exit 15 turning into Eureka Road.

Car Hire

Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty are all located on-site, close to the North Terminal on Lucas Drive, to which courtesy shuttles operate from the terminals.

Public Transport

Bus: SMART bus (tel: (866) 962 5515; www.smartbus.org) runs local services to central Detroit (journey time: 40-50 minutes) from the outer roadway (lower level) outside both terminals, near the ground transportation offices. Fares start at US$2.50 (£1.50) depending on destination and service chosen.

Taxi: Taxis are available from Metro Airport Taxis (tel: 1 800 745 5191; www.metrocars.com) and Metro Cab (tel: (734) 997 6500). Fares to downtown Detroit are US$45-55.
Rail: Amtrak (tel: 1 800 872 7245; www.amtrak.com) serves Dearborn station, 19km (12 miles) away from the airport.

Car Parking

There are several car parks offering hourly, daily and long-term parking. A free shuttle service is available between all terminals and car parks, stopping at the first level of the Big Blue Deck long-term car park and at pick-up points in the surface car parks. Valet parking is available. Additional long-term outdoor parking, the Yellow and Green Lot, is another option, linked to both terminals by a free shuttle. For parking availability and information, call the parking hotline (tel: 1 800 642 1978). The airport has introduced a new ticketless parking payment system using credit or debit cards. There are also 'cell phone waiting' lots.
