The airport is located 14km (9 miles) northwest of Miami.

Airport News

A massive redevelopment and expansion project is underway that will more clearly divide the terminal complex into a North and South terminal and make both much larger than today. Completion of the North Terminal is expected in 2011.

Driving Directions

From downtown Miami, take the I-95 north to SR836 West, take the exit at Le Jeune Road northbound (NW 42 Avenue); the airport is well signposted. From the north, take the I-95 south to SR112, continuing to the connector to the airport. From the southwest, take SR826 north and exit at Le Jeune Road northbound (NW 42 Avenue).

Car Hire

Companies include Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National, Payless, Royal Rent A Car and Thrifty, as well as a number of local agencies. All car hire companies are now housed in the new Rental Car Center 1.6 km (1 mile) east of the airport, which is served by the new MIA Mover shuttle train from 2011.

Public Transport

Bus: The Miami-Dade Transit Department (tel: (305) 891 3131; www.miamidade.gov/transit) provides Metrobus services to all areas of Miami-Dade County. Several routes call at the airport. The bus station is located on Level 1 of Terminal E. The express Airport Flyer (route 150), the newest addition to the airports' transport network, costs $2.50 each way. The route connects Miami International Airport (Terminal E) and Miami Beach (stopping at 41st street and Alton Road; then along Collins Avenue to 16th Street) with only one stop in between at the Earlington Heights Metrorail station (journey time: 20-30 minutes).

Taxi: Taxis and shuttle vans (tel: (305) 871 2000) are available outside baggage reclaim. The taxi fare to central Miami is around $22, and to the cruise ship terminal $24.
Rail: A Metrobus service also provides a connection to the Tri-Rail (tel: (305) 891 3131; www.miamidade.gov/transit) commuter train system at the Airport Station, immediately east of the station, with connections to Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Services from Airport Station to the terminals are free for valid air ticket holders.

Car Parking

Long-term airport parking facilities consist of two multi-level parking garages, Dolphin Garage and Flamingo Garage, both with access to the terminal via moving walkways. There are also two short-term car parks situated near the terminal building, signposted as Upper and Lower Level Park One. For more information about parking at the airport, call: (305) 876 7382.

There is a tourist information center (tel: (305) 876 7000) on level 2 of Concourse E. Passengers can request information on a range of airport facilities through the airport's website.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There is a full service bank and a post office. Bureaux de change and ATMs as well as data port connections and wireless Internet access points are also available in the terminal complex.
Eating and drinking: There is a wide variety of facilities including 24-hour snack bars, cocktail lounges, restaurants and numerous cafés.
Shopping: There is a range of shops, including duty-free, on concourses A-F.
Luggage:
A porter service and trolleys are available.
Other facilities: There are pharmacies, an art gallery, a hairdresser, shoeshine and a chapel.

Conference and Business Facilities

The Miami International Airport Hotel (tel: (305) 871 4100, ext 2238) operates the Executive Conference Center. The center provides business services and has meeting rooms for up to 12 delegates and a conference suite for up to 200 delegates. It is fully equipped with audiovisual equipment and also provides a catering service. Airlines operate executive lounges throughout the terminal. Internet access, both wired and wireless, is available at the airport. Conference facilities are also offered by many of the surrounding hotels.

Facilities for Disabled Travelers

Most toilets are wheelchair-accessible and TDD telephones for hearing-impaired people are available. Designated disabled-permit parking is located on Level 3 in the Flamingo Garage, near the moving walkways. Wheelchair service is available through the airlines.
