Airport News
Construction of the new Bradley West extension to the existing Tom Bradley International Terminal, which at a cost of more than US$1.5 billion will ultimately add 18 extra boarding gates (half of which will accommodate A380-size aircraft), is scheduled for completion in 2012/13.
Transfer Between Terminals
A free shuttle bus serves all the terminals around the central loop.
Driving Directions
The airport is located just off the Pacific Coast Highway (Highway 1) and Highway 42, near the intersection of Freeway 405 and Freeway 105 (Highway 1 is also called Lincoln Boulevard just north of the airport and is called Sepulveda Boulevard just south of the airport). From Los Angeles, take Freeway 405 south, turn off onto either Highway 42 or Freeway 105 west, and follow signs to the airport. Traffic is heavy at peak times and the airport recommends using public transport.
Car Hire
About 40 companies serve the airport, with offices located off-site. These, which include all major car hire companies such as Alamo, Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty, can be contacted via courtesy telephone links inside or near the baggage reclaim areas on the Arrivals level of all terminals. Ten of these companies, including all the major international names on site, are licensed to collect/drop off passengers directly at the terminals via a shuttle service.
Public Transport
Bus: Various airport bus and mini-van services run to destinations all over southern California, including the Metropolitan Express (tel: 800 266 6883; www.socaltransport.org) to downtown Los Angeles and Union Station and the FlyAway Bus (tel: 866 435 9529) providing services between the airport and Union Station, Westwood Station and Van Nuys Station every 30 minutes from 0500 to 0100. Car Parking
There are about 8,000 parking spaces available in eight central car parks with good access to all the terminals, offering short- and long-term parking. The two perimeter car parks (lots B and C) have cheaper daily rates and the first two hours of parking are free; the LAX shuttle runs between these car parks and the terminals. Metered parking is available in the central terminal area and on the Arrivals level uncovered car parks. There is also an 'Economy Parking Lot' with more than 7,000 spaces, linked to the terminals via a free shuttle-bus service, and a 'Cell Phone Waiting Lot' for those collecting arriving passengers.
