Driving Directions

The A1 connects with the A696, which leads directly to the airport. The airport is well-signposted from Newcastle city center.

Car Hire

Alamo, Avis, Europcar, Hertz and National are all represented at the airport, with desks opposite Domestic Arrivals on the ground floor of the terminal building.

Public Transport

Bus: Several bus lines run between Eldon Square Bus Concourse in the city center and the airport, including bus X77, X78 and X79. For more information, contact Traveline (tel: 0871 200 2233; www.travelinenortheast.info). Journey time to the city center is around 30 minutes.

Taxi: The Airport Taxi Association (tel: (0191) 214 6969; www.airport-taxis.co.uk) runs a service from a desk within the terminal building. Chauffeured executive cars, MPVs and luxury coaches are offered by Parkers Execulink (tel: (0333) 666 1777; www.parkersexeculink.com).
Metro: The city underground Metro system (tel: (0191) 203 3333; www.nexus.org.uk/metro) connects the airport directly with 60 other Metro stations. Journey time to the city center is 25 minutes; a single ticket costs £3.

Car Parking

Both long- and short-term parking are provided, with a 24-hour courtesy shuttle bus operating between the long-term car park and the terminal. A direct pre-booking service is available enabling passengers to save money on parking costs (tel: (0191) 214 4341). Online booking via the airport's website is also available.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: A bank, bureau de change and ATMs are available. Telephones can be found throughout the airport and there is an Internet Lounge in the Departures lounge.
Eating and drinking:
There is a cafe, a pub and a bakery landside, while a fast-food restaurant, a bar, a cafe and a deli-bakery can be found airside (traveling passengers only).
Shopping: Many new shops opened at the airport in 2007. These now include shops selling fashion and sportswear, as well as accessories, books and magazines, electronics and more. There is also a chemist. Duty-free is available. Duty-free goods can be pre-ordered online via the airport’s website.
Luggage: 24-hour left luggage (tel: (0191) 214 3382) and lost property are available (tel: (0191) 214 3367), as well as a free porter service.
Other facilities: These include baby care facilities, play areas, an entertainment area with children’s rides and video games, a travel agent and a 24-hour chaplaincy.

Conference and Business Facilities

The Cheviot Executive Lounge is available for all passengers, with credit card telephone, fax and Internet facilities available. There is also a British Airways Lounge equipped with a business center area. Facilities for Disabled Travelers

Disabled toilets, lifts and reserved car parking spaces are all provided. There are wheelchairs and specialist vehicles within the terminal for access to the aircraft. A TDD phone for hearing-impaired passengers is available on the main concourse opposite the information desk. There is an induction coupler on payphones, and a Minicom telephone at the information desk. An induction loop system is in operation in various parts of the terminal building. Passenger service assistants are available on request and a number of airport staff are trained in the use of sign language. Those requiring assistance should contact the airport in advance.
