The airport is situated 13km (8 miles) southeast of Birmingham.

Airport News

In February 2011, Birmingham International Airport changed its name to Birmingham Airport following a move from a two terminal to a one terminal facility. Plans are in place for a £280 million monorail connecting BHX with New Street station in central Birmingham. The proposed link would cut journey times to and from the city center to just 16 minutes.

Driving Directions

The airport is situated on the A45 Coventry road, close to junction 6 of the M42. There are direct connections from the M1, M5, M6 and M40. The new M6 toll road provides a faster alternative to the M6. The airport is signposted from the motorways.

Car Hire

Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Europcar, Hertz and National/Alamo have desks in the Millennium Link between the two terminals. Hire car collection/drop off is situated at the entrance to Long Stay Car Park 1.

Public Transport

Bus: Local buses (tel: 0871 200 2233; ) link the airport to the surrounding district. All buses stop outside the terminal. Coach: National Express (tel: 0871 781 8181; ) operates long-distance coach services, linking the airport to Birmingham and a number of other cities, and provides inter-airport coaches linking the airport with London Luton, London Gatwick and London Stansted airports. Taxi: Black cabs (tel: 0121 782 3744) carry up to five people with luggage. They are available on a rank outside the terminal.
Rail: The free Air-Rail shuttle service links the airport directly to nearby Birmingham International Train Station in about two minutes. Frequent services connect Birmingham International with New Street station in the city center - train operators include Arriva Trains Wales, CrossCountry, London Midland and Virgin Trains, which offers long distance services between London and Glasgow via Birmingham (tel: 0845 748 4950; ).

Car Parking

Short and medium stay parking is available in three multi-story facilities close to the terminal, while long term car parks, adjacent to the main A45 road, are linked to the terminal by shuttle buses. NCP operates parking at BHX (tel: 0845 050 7080; www.ncp.co.uk). It also offers valet parking.
