Location

The airport is situated 18km (11 miles) south of Las Palmas, and 25km (16 miles) north of the popular tourist areas on the south coast of the island.

Airport News

The airport terminal is presently being expanded to ultimately handle more than 15 million passengers annually. The €900 million project is scheduled for completion in 2012.

Transfer Between Terminals

Terminals A and B/C are adjacent to one another and within a short walking distance.

Driving Directions

Access to the airport from Las Palmas and destinations on the east coast is via the island's main north-south motorway GC-1. The airport is well-signposted from the motorway and adjoining secondary roads.

Car Hire

Companies present at the airport include Avis, Cicar, Europcar, Goldcar Europa and Hertz. Desks can be found in Zone A, the walkway connecting International and EU Arrivals on the ground floor.

Public Transport

Bus: There are frequent bus services operated by Global (tel: (928) 252 630; www.globalsu.net) between the airport and the capital (journey time: 30 minutes; fare: £2.85), as well as numerous other destinations on the island. Bus 60 runs to Las Palmas for Parque de San Catalina and Parque de San Telmo. Bus 66 runs to Faro de Maspalomas. Route 5 connects Gran Canaria Airport to the main beach resorts of the south. Bus services depart from outside the Arrivals halls of zones A and C. Taxi: Taxis (tel: (928) 154 777) are available from stands outside the Arrivals areas of all three zones. The fare to Las Palmas is around €25.

Car Parking

Short- and long-term parking is available in front of the terminal building in 1,560 parking spaces. Payment is via automatic machines accepting Euro notes and coins, and credit/debit cards.

Information and Help Desks

Information desks (tel: (91) 321 1000) are located on Level 1 of the airport in all three zones. The Gran Canaria Tourist Board has a tourist information point in the EU Arrivals hall (Zone A), with tourist information and maps available (tel: (928) 574 117; www.turismodecanarias.com).

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There is a bank on the ground floor of Zone A and ATMs on the first floor. There are bureau de change in the EU Arrivals hall and in the check-in halls on the ground floor. There is a post office in the International Arrivals hall. An Internet cafe is situated after security on the first floor of EU Departures (Zone A).
Eating and drinking:
There are coffee shops, bars and fast-food stands on both the Arrivals and Departures floors; a 24-hour deli is located in Zone A (before security).
Shopping:
Shops include duty-free, a florist, a jewellers and a mini supermarket.
Luggage:
Lost property offices are located in all zones (tel: (928) 579 130).
Other facilities: There is a 24-hour medical service, a pharmacy, baby rooms, a children’s play room, a chapel and several travel agencies and tour operators.

Conference and Business Facilities

A conference room with capacity for up to 74 delegates (tel: (928) 579 005) is located in the corridor connecting the International and the EU check-in halls. The Sala Galdós VIP lounge (tel: (928) 579 095) is situated on the terrace of the second floor, above the EU Departures lounge; there is also a press lounge on the first floor between Zones B and C. Extensive meeting and conference facilities, plus a business center are available at the Elba Vecindario Aeropuerto Hotel (tel: (928) 724 300; www.hoteleselba.com), a short distance south of the airport.

Facilities for Disabled Travelers

There are lifts and ramps in the terminal for disabled access. Disabled parking spaces are provided on each level of the car park. Passengers requiring wheelchairs and special assistance should inform their airline prior to travel.
