The airport is located 28km (18 miles) northeast of Munich.

Airport News

A new satellite facility is to be constructed to the east of the existing Terminal 2, adding an extra 52 gates. This facility will function as part of Terminal 2, and is scheduled to come into operation in 2015.

Transfer Between Terminals

The Munich Airport Center (MAC) connects Terminal 1 with Terminal 2, which is a short walk away.

Driving Directions

The airport is located just off the A92 between Munich and Deggendorf and is accessible from four motorway exits. Connect to the A92 from the A99 Munich ring road from southern and eastern destinations. Alternatively, take the smaller Route 388 from Munich towards Erding, and turn off north for the airport just before reaching Erding. Once at the airport, follow the signs to Terminal 1 or 2.

Car Hire

Car hire companies include Avis, Europcar, Hertz, National/Alamo, Sixt and Terstappen, with offices located on Concourse A of Terminal 1.

Public Transport

Bus: Bus and coach services run to Munich and the surrounding areas. Autobus Oberbayern (tel: (089) 323 040; www.airportbus-muenchen.de) runs a Lufthansa Airport Bus service to Munich Hauptbahnhof. Buses serve both terminals. Journey time is around 40 minutes, and the adult single fare is €10.50. During large exhibitions, another shuttle bus service runs to the München Messe exhibition center. Information and tickets are available from the Service Center, on Level 3 of the MAC area (tel: (089) 9752 1375). There are also services to Salzburg, Innsbruck and other nearby Austrian cities.

Taxi: Taxis are available from the airport to the city center (journey time: 45 minutes).
Rail: Commuter trains S1 and S8 both depart to various Munich stations, including Munich Hauptbahnhof, Marienplatz, Laim and Ostbahnhof, where rail connections are available to major German cities and European destinations. S8 is the quicker of the two services. Car Parking

Underground car parks P1, P2, P3, P4 and P9 offer short-term parking facilities (up to one week). Other parking close to the terminals can be found in multi-story car parks P6, P7, P8, P20, P25 and in the airport hotel underground P26 car park. Car park P41 at Nordallee offers weekly rates and is served by a free shuttle bus to the airport. Other car parks include the remote parking facilities at car park P51 and the visitors' car park P53. Valet parking is also available. The 24-hour Parking Office (tel: 0900 172 7537) is in the Munich Airport Center on Level 3.

Information and Help Desks

There is a Central Information Desk (tel: (089) 97500) on the Level 3 Main Concourse (Central Area), with multilingual staff. There are also tourist information desks on Level 4 Arrivals and Departures in Terminal 1. In Terminal 2, the Central Information Desk is located in Departures Level 4 in the central check-in hall; another information stand is located directly in front of Arrivals, on Level 3. There are also several Lufthansa Service Desks located throughout Terminal 2.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: Facilities include banks, bureau de change, ATMs and a post office. There is also 24 hour Internet access in the Service Center Internet Point. Wireless Internet access is available throughout the airport.
Eating and drinking: There are many bars, restaurants, snack bars and coffee bars. The Terminal 2 gallery is a popular spot for drinking and dining.
Shopping: There are duty-free shops and many other shops, including a wide variety of clothing, electronics, accessories and gift shops.
Luggage: A left-luggage office is located in the Service Center, in the MAC area; there is also a lost property office (tel: (089) 9752 1370). A porter service (tel: (089) 9759 9795) is available and porters are easily recognized by their green uniforms. Baggage trolleys are available.
Other facilities: There is a 24-hour medical emergency center, a pharmacy, baby changing rooms, a dentist, dry cleaning and laundry service, children’s play areas and showers, as well as over 40 travel agencies and tour operators. The five-star Kempinski Airport Hotel (see Airport Hotels below) adjacent to Terminal 2 and the MAC, offers non-guests access to its pool, fitness and spa area for a nominal fee. The hotel also hosts regular after-work cocktail parties for travelers, airport employees, guests and visitors.

Conference and Business Facilities

The MAC Forum (tel: (089) 9753 4331) is used for events and exhibitions, with media and communications technology support and catering. The MAC business service center, Municon (tel: (089) 9759 3200), has 35 conference rooms, accommodating from four to 120 delegates. Security personnel, VIP service and relaxation rooms with bed and bath are available. The new VIP Wing (tel: (089) 97 52 13 33) luxury lounge in Terminal 1 includes conference rooms, wireless internet access, a bistro and bar and shower facilities. Further conference and meeting facilities are available at the on-site Kempinski Airport Hotel (tel: (089) 97820; www.kempinski-airport.de), accommodating up to 400 delegates and a fully equipped business center. There are six airline lounges and two airport-run lounges, the Atlantik and Europa lounges.

Facilities for Disabled Travelers

Disabled passengers should inform the airline of any special needs and assistance required prior to travel. TDD telephones are available in the Level 3 of the main concourse and in the medical center. Wheelchairs are available free of charge from the information desks in Departures concourse A-D and Z. There are wheelchair-accessible toilets and elevators throughout the airport. Disabled parking is available in all underground and multi-story car parks. Terminal 2 has tactile systems for visually impaired passengers. Many services, such as accompaniment, arrangement of disabled transport services and wheelchair repairs, are available from the Malteser Service Organization (tel: (089) 9756 3333); reservations are required.
