The airport is located 19km (11.5 miles) north of Helsinki.

Airport News

As part of a two-year program of renovation and improvements to the terminal facilities, a new check-in area opened in Terminal 2 in late-2010. The work is expected to last until the end of 2011.

Transfer Between Terminals

Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are only 300m (328 yards) apart and are linked by an internal walkway.

Driving Directions

From Helsinki city center, drive north along Tuusula road (Hwy 45) and follow signs for the airport. From the west and the east, get on Kehä III (Hwy E18 or Hwy 50) and follow signs for the airport.

Car Hire

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, and Sixt are represented at the airport, with desks in the corridor between Terminals 1 and 2.

Public Transport

Bus: YTV buses to Helsinki city center (bus 415, 451 and 615) depart from outside both terminals (journey time: 40 minutes). More services run to other destinations (tel: 0100 111; www.hsl.fi/en). The Finnair City Bus (tel: (09) 818 503; www.finnair.fi) also runs to Helsinki city center. Taxi: Taxi ranks are located in front of both terminals (journey time to Helsinki: 30 minutes).

Car Parking

There are three parking options: Lomaparkki (parking for vacationers) Bisnesparkki (parking for business travelers) or Pikaparkki (short-term parking). See the airport's website for prices and booking methods.

Information and Help Desks

There is a tourist information desk in Terminal 2 Arrivals which also sells travel cards and other visitor services. General airport information desks are situated in both terminals.

Airport Facilities

Money and communications: There are three ATMs located on the arrivals floor, and five ATMs on the Terminal 2 departures floor. Four Travelex offices can be found in Terminal 2: one on the service floor and three on the departure floor.
Eating and drinking: There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars in both terminals, including a 24-hour fast-food restaurant.
Shopping:
There are numerous shops at the airport, with more to open in Terminal 1, late 2009.
Other facilities: Tourist information is on the arrivals floor of Terminal 2, and there are airport information desks at arrivals in both terminals. Three children's playrooms are available at gate area. A pharmacy is in arrivals of Terminal 2. Wireless internet Access is available throughout theairport and there are six internet kiosks. A new spa, including sauna, opened in 2010.

Conference and Business Facilities

Helsinki Airport Congress, located in Terminal 2, has nine meeting rooms; the largest with seating for up to 140 persons. The facilities are equipped with the latest audiovisual and communications systems.

The Hotel GLO Helsinki Airport (tel: (09) 5840 9540; www.hotelglo.fi) features a private room with adjacent sauna, for two to six persons, while the Hilton Helsinki-Vantaa Airport Hotel (tel: (09) 73 220; www.hilton.com) has an extensive range of meeting and conference facilities with capacity of up to 350 persons.

A VIP service offers check-in, security screening, passport control and customs inspections, assistance in shopping and exchanging currency, at the VIP Center in the Terminal 2 or at the separate VIP President Terminal (which caterers for larger groups).

Facilities for Disabled Travelers

The terminals have been designed to facilitate the independent mobility of the disabled. Adapted toilets and spacious lifts can be found on every floor. Disabled parking spaces are available in front of both terminals and in the parking facilities. Information desks are equipped with induction loops. Staff has been specially trained to cater for passengers needing assistance. It is recommended to notify the airline of any special requirements, such as use of wheelchair or oxygen tank, when booking travel.
