The airport is located 8km (5 miles) southeast of Wellington city center.

Wellington Airport's controversial and architecturally original new terminal building, dubbed 'the Rock', officially opened late in 2010.

Driving Directions

From central Wellington, take Highway 1 and follow the signage for Rongotai/Airport.

Car Hire

Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz and Thrifty have offices on Level 0 of the main terminal building.

Public Transport

Bus: The Airport Flyer express bus (tel: 0800 801 700; www.metlink.org.nz) runs every 15 minutes from the airport to central Wellington and the Hutt Valley; the journey time is approximately 25 minutes. There are a number of shuttle companies offering door-to-door transfers. Taxi: Taxis are available immediately outside Arrivals. The main operator is Wellington Combined Taxis (tel: (04) 384 4444; www.taxis.co.nz).

Car Parking

Short- and long-term parking is available, as well as premium covered parking. The long-term car park is linked to the terminal by free shuttle buses.

Information and Help Desks

The airport has an information station in the baggage claim area, with customer assistance phones and details of transport, accommodation and other visitor services. A team of volunteer 'airport ambassadors' are on duty during the afternoon in the busiest areas of the terminal.

Conference and Business Facilities

Wellington Airport Conference Center (tel: (04) 385 5199; www.wellingtonairport.co.nz) offers a range of meeting rooms with capacity for up to 120 people. It is situated in the main terminal building. There is also a corporate lounge.

Facilities for Disabled Travelers

Dedicated car parking spaces, and car park lifts, are available for the disabled. In the terminal, there is lift access to all levels, and specially adapted toilets. Wheelchairs are available; these need to be arranged with the airline.
