Location
The airport is situated within the boundaries of the city of Port Elizabeth, 5km (3 miles) west of the Capital Business District and 3km (2 miles) southwest of Algoa Bay.
Airport News
The airport received a general cosmetic facelift in the run-up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup competition hosted by South Africa, but this did not involve any significant structural changes.
Driving Directions
The airport (known locally as the '10 minute airport') is reached quickly from the city center via Route M11 from Humewood into Alister Miller Drive. The terminal is then on the left-hand side of the road.
Car Hire
Car hire companies represented include Alisa, Avis, Budget, Europcar, Imperial and Tempest.
Public Transport
Bus: Shuttle services are available on request or by booking in advance in the Arrivals hall. These operate according to flight schedules and passengers can also book their return journey to the airport in advance. Journey time to city center is approx. 10 minutes.
Taxi: Metered taxis are available outside the Departures hall.
Car Parking
Short-term car parking (up to 8 hours), long-term parking, covered parking and lock-up garages are all available (tel: 41 581 0588). These are located directly in front of the terminal building.
Information and Help Desks
There is an information desk (tel: 41 507 7319) in the Arrivals hall. There is also a visitor information desk (tel: 41 581 0456; www.nmbt.co.za). Hotels and sightseeing excursions can be booked at the desk.
Airport Facilities
Money and communications: There is an ATM situated between the Arrivals and Departures halls and the information desk operates a bureau de change facility. There is also a post box in the Departures hall. Telephones are available in the Arrivals and Departures halls.
Eating and drinking: There is a restaurant on the first floor of the Departures hall and cafes in the Arrivals and Departures halls.
Shopping: There are a few shops at the airport, including gift and sweet shops in the Departures hall.
Luggage: Trolleys are available in the Arrivals hall (next to the baggage belts), in the car park are and at the entrance to the Departures hall.
Other facilities: Baby changing facilities are available in the ladies toilets in the Arrivals and Departures halls.
Conference and Business Facilities
The Landing Strip conference center is located on the first floor of the main terminal building; catering is available by prior arrangement. There is also a conference room in the Aero Park Block B (tel: 41 507 7418), situated 200m (250 yards) from the Arrivals hall, which can seat 25-30 people. Televisions, videos, overhead projectors and white boards are available for hire. Close to the airport, the beachfront Radisson Blu Hotel (tel: 41 509 5000; www.radissonblu.com) offers a range of meeting and event rooms, as well as a business center.
Facilities for Disabled Travelers
The airport has accessible toilets for disabled travelers and lifts to the first floor, where the business class lounge and restaurant are situated. Contact the information desk (tel: 41 507 7319) for assistance.
