In the rolling hills of Central Alberta lies a course that harkens back to golf’s old world Scottish origins. Wolf Creek Golf Resort is ranked as one of Canada’s top 20 courses by Score Golf.

As you steady yourself on the tee of Hole #1, you joke to your foursome that if you get a hole in one, you’ll buy them a round. But if you don’t pull this off at Spruce Bend, as the hole is known, you’ve still got lots of time to achieve extraordinary feats on the fairway. With 18 hours of daylight, the days of summer in Central and Northern Alberta are almost endless. Which comes in handy for this 36-hole course, characterized by its native grasses and undulating greens.

Central Alberta

In central Alberta, you have a wealth of choices. The region's strengths for golfers include its variety (there are more than 20 private and public/semi-private courses) and its accessibility from pretty much anywhere in the province.

Northern Alberta

There are more than 20 golf courses in Northern Alberta amidst a mix of boreal forest, lakes and rivers. The result is a golf experience that makes the most of the scenic wilderness.

Want a challenge? Just one hour north of Edmonton you could be playing the Athabasca Golf and Country Club, considered the most difficult course in Alberta. Pause for a moment at Hole #3 to take in the view. With heavy trees on both sides and a creek cutting in front of the green, the vista beyond is a breathtaking series of rolling hills. Take the club pro’s suggestion and use a six iron to get some extra yardage.

Northern Alberta golf courses provide challenges for all skill levels. At the Fort McMurray Golf Club watch for the dogleg right on Hole #1, although a skilled tee shot will get you within striking distance to the green guarded by bunkers.

In Grande Prairie, golf right at the edge of the city when visiting 18-hole Bear Creek Golf Club.

Find a 9-hole public course alongside the Little Smoky River at the Valleyview Riverside Golf Club and enjoy RV camping. The Grand Cache Golf & Country Club is one of the highest in the Rockies. Look out – your depth perception can play tricks on you.
